4/18/2008

No, I’m not talking about the date that the DERS will be eliminated, yet again, from the playoffs by the Ottawa Senators on a break away goal scored by Randy Robitaille in the third period of game four (calling it). I am talking about the DERS winning only 4 games out of the 18 games they have played so far this year.

I don’t even know where to being.

I guess they are finally playing the way I thought they would before this season started. So I guess I can not be that mad at the current predicament the DERS are in.

But still, would someone light a fire under their asses. I mean I feel like I’m watching a team of Oleg Kvashas and Alexei Yashins slowly skating around the ice, not playing defense and waiting for the puck to get to them so they can get a “scoring chance” only to either lose the puck due to a back checking defenseman or take a shot, from at least 10 feet away, and miss the net completely. It’s pathetic.

The only guys who are truly trying to be productive are the guys who are just happy to be playing at this level. Players like Blake, Tam, and Berge (Comeau, Tambellini and Bergenheim) are playing like they hate Bridgeport. It may not seem this way statistically, but if you watch them play there is something that they have inside that the most of the veterans do not. Even Jackman seems to have that attitude as well. I remember watching a game, I believe it was against the devils, and right off the face off Jackman was just about to drop the gloves with someone and Sutton jumped in and proceeded to get knocked out. For players like Jackman if they want to stay in the NHL they have to drop the gloves and if they don’t their quality of play drops. I mean don’t get me wrong I love to see Andy participate in the only form of legal bare-knuckle boxing in the United States, but that was Jackman’s fight and he was visibly upset he did not get to partake.

Although it is not just the young guys who are giving it their all. Players like Kenny Wu and Silli (Park and Sillinger) are giving 150 percent every shift they take. On a side note: I am so glad that the DERS were able to sign these two players. I think that they are absolutely great players and if they get traded at the deadline I will be as pissed as Carl Brutananadilewski.

Players like Satan and H. Duff (Comrie) seem to only play when there is a chance for them to shine. I mean I like them but they seem to not care as much as they should.

Something needs to be done with this team. I am not sure if a fire sale at the deadline is what we need, but I’m not going to lie, some new young faces in our line up could prove beneficial.

GO DERS!
